Fort Worth to enact residency restrictions for State Registrants

On February 10, 2026 the Fort Worth City Council delayed a vote on a proposed ordinance restricting where state registrants can live in the city. The vote is now scheduled to take place on February 24, 2026.

Currently undergoing legal review, the proposed ordinance will bar registrants from residing within 2,000 feet of a child safety zone if their victims were younger than 17 years old. If approved, the ordinance would place approximately 98% of the city’s available residential land off limits to registrants. It would not affect registrants’ current residences, however it will make moving to a new location more difficult.
