A Child Safety Zone (“CSZ”) is a location where children commonly gather. This term includes, but is not limited to schools, day-care facilities, playgrounds, public or private youth centers, public swimming pools, video arcade facilities, or other facilities that regularly hold events primarily for children. It does not include churches.
Local municipalities may impose restrictions on how close to a CSZ a person required to register may reside; they may also restrict the physical presence of a registrant inside a CSZ, even if they are just passing through, if the registrant does not have a lawful purpose for being inside the zone. This distance is generally measured as a straight-line distance from the edge of the CSZ. Persons required to register may not reside within this area as defined by their municipalities, and may be subject to prosecution if they enter it without a lawful purpose.
If you are required to register, and are on community supervision, and you are unsure about any situation pertaining to a CSZ, it is best to consult with your PO to ensure that you remain within the bounds of the law.
